Everyday Champions

I asked myself a question, “What makes champions?” I look around me and see successful men and women and I ask myself again, “what makes them successful?” Is it their looks, age, intelligence, finances or family background? I don’t really think so. Some of them I have seen and some of us even have them as friends. Truth is, they are no different from any of us.

So what makes these men and women larger than life? One thing that is common to all these men and women is their decision to be different. A chronicle of men and women who have shaped history or changed their lives shows men and women who at one point or the other had lofty dreams…..and went for it. There has never been a want of dreams but what we lack is men and women who will work to bring these dreams to reality. I am sure that you have dreams too – for some of us, it is to be better than who we are now, to contribute more to the world, to achieve more, or bring changes to more lives. This is a great place to start because all great accomplishment start with desires like these. The Wright brothers dreamt of flying, Thomas Edison wanted electric light available cheaply, Henry Ford desired to make cars affordable, Martin Luther imagined a world of freedom, and many more not mentioned here. These people all wanted something different from the norm, what they were used to, and they acted on their dreams. It is a known fact that we are where we are today in civilisation because of men who decided to be different. So how do we bring to life these desires within us?

#1. Feed your mind. The quality of your thoughts determines the quality of your dreams. So many of us take good care of our bodies but care little for our minds. We feed and exercise our body regularly to keep it in shape. The same is required of your mind. Make it a duty to read a book a month. I am not talking about novels here; I am talking about books that add to you. The greatest of all these books is the bible.

#2. Watch TV less. Watching TV too much is like eating too much of junk foods. Soon you add unnecessary thoughts and choke the creative and innovative part of your mind. I have to state clearly here again – if you are going to make an impact in life or be different, you will have to cut down on TV.

#3. Spend some time in solitude. Most measuring equipments have what we call a Signal-to-Noise ratio. The higher the instrument’s noise level, the lower its capacity to measure the desired signal. Our mind works same way. We need to have times of solitude so that we can be in touch with signals from the inner-most part of our being.

#4. Pray. You may ask, why prayer? Here is the reason why:

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We do not live for this life alone but for the life hereafter, which is why it is important to depend on God for all things. Our dreams also need to be guided so that,

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

#5. Take action. Dream will always remain dreams until they are acted upon and brought to life. Fear of failure is what keeps most people from acting on their dreams. Unfortunately, most fears have no substance.

The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure – Sven Goran Eriksson.

FEAR is an acronym in the English language for “False Evidence Appearing Real” – Neale Donald Walsch

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others – Marianne Williamson

The next generation is counting on us, to make their lives better. Your children are counting on you to live your dreams and make their world better. Yours may not be as lofty as the ones we have mentioned earlier. We do not need to hold a one-million-man march before we can make an impact. However in little ways, you can affect your family members and your immediate neighbours. Know this, that no dream is insignificant; your dream, however small, has in it seeds of greater dreams. As you go through this new month, look for ways to make simple dreams come alive – be a champion everyday!

Thanks for the comment. We have to hold onto those precious dreams dear. Otherwise we would get to the end of time and see how much we have missed.

The bible states that the world is waiting for the manifestation of the children of God. We are Gods children and we have been called by God to “arise and shine for our light is come” and who is our light? our Lord Jesus Christ. John 1:1-4 says “in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. In Him was Light and the Light was the Life of men”. to have and more importantly achieve our dreams, we need the Light, to have Light, we need to imbibe the Life of Christ imbibed in our daily living. Every champion must understand “winning ways”, and the only place to learn that is at the feet of Him who has never lost, can never loose and will never loose a battle – Jesus. He is our source.

Hmm….very deep. Thanks for the comment. Indeed, Jesus is our forerunner, our example, and without Him we are can’t win. The bibles says, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Jesus is the way!
