If you are reading this, then you made it across into the new year. Congratulations!
I am thankful to God for the opportunity to see the new year. I wouldn’t say I had everything figured out or made the right decisions all through the year. I have just been a beneficiary of God’s grace.
Now that we are here, we are back to the beginning of the race again – new year resolutions, goal settings, vacation plans, financial plans, etc. Already, there are so many programmes and events lining up to teach us how to make 2026 a successful year.
Not that these activities don’t matter. It’s just that sometimes, it can be a bit overwhelming. We set so many goals, plan so many activities, but when we get to the end of the year, we see how little these things matter to our success.
What I am trying to tell you is very simple. Don’t feel pressured to set so many goals and pack up your 2026 plan with so many things because you see people around you doing the same. Life is not a competition or a country race.
Here is what you should do. Take some time out to review what worked and what didn’t work for you in 2026. You may even consider the list of activities and goals you set for yourself this time last year. Go carefully over the significant achievements, failures or missed opportunities. Then set out a plan to address these things.
You do not need to reinvent the wheel regarding your achievements. You just need to do what you did that got you the result. Life is not like an iPhone that needs to be upgraded every year. If it worked last year, just repeat it.
Failures are learning points. And you should really learn from them. Cause honestly, a lot of people talk about their failures but rarely learn from them. So, you should put in place action plans to prevent them from happening again. But you must have been able to identify what really led to the failure, something we call the root cause.
The same applies to missed opportunities. You should be clear and have an action plan to reposition yourself for those opportunities. I know you have heard many times that opportunities come but once in a lifetime. This may be true for those waiting for opportunities to come. But for people like you and me, we seek out those opportunities. These are some of things I will be sharing more about here this year.
Finally, your plans don’t need to be perfect. All you need is a simple plan, and this is usually enough to change a life, if it is implemented. I realised I wasted a lot of time trying to create the perfect plan for a perfect life. Then I realised that most of the blessings and opportunities that came my way did not come from my perfect decisions or actions. So I am taking a new path this year – I am just going to do it, whether it is perfect or not. If I fail, I’ll learn. If I succeed, I’ll learn.
Don’t waste too much time trying to create the perfect plan or match what you see others doing. Focus on your own journey and start moving forward step by step. You will be surprised at the success that’s going to come your way.
Cheers!
